Circuit – Joining Procedure – Visual Flight Rules (VFR) 

From the South – Visual Flight Rules (VFR)

– Enter the buffer zone at or below 6000’ on FAOR QNH. 
– Call FABB traffic on 122,7
-Fly Overhead the hangers. From there HDG 090, Crossing Midfield to Makro to join either

on left-hand downwind for Runway 18 (remain South of the Benoni Brakpan railway) or Right hand downwind for Runway 36

From the East
– Enter the buffer zone at or below 6000’ on FAOR QNH. Pass over Jan Smuts Dam 
– Call FABB traffic on 122,7 If the runway in use can be determined by means of radio communication join left-hand downwind for Runway 18 (remain South of the Benoni Brakpan railway line) or right-hand downwind for Runway 36.
– If the runway in use can not be determined by means of radio communication, OR ATIS 126.2 join overhead at or below 6000’ to check the wind direction, turn back East immediately without going to the West of the airfield and join left hand downwind for Runway 18 (remain South of the Benoni Brakpan railway line) or right hand downwind for Runway 36.

Departure
– Squawk 2000 mode C (If Equipped)
– Depart via Jan Smuts dam to the East or ERGO slimes dam to the South. (Keep Eastern Side of Ergo -Inbound Traffic on West) 
– Remain at or below 6000’ until clear of the buffer zone.
– Once clear of the buffer zone VFR go 125,4 MHz (Below FAJS TMA East) or on an IFR flight plan go 124,5 MHz (FAJS approach S&E

Approach Lighting
RWY, THR, and END lights are solar-powered and on automatically at sunset and switch off at sunrise. Please check the IF procedures.

 

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) FLIGHTS AT FABB:
Departing
1. File your flight plan at ATNS (011 928 6517);
2. Prior to startup call Approach Filter (011 928-6455) for a squawk;
3. Depart the field as per flight plan. Departing the ATZ call Radar (124.5) who will give your routing and climb clearance.

Arrival
1. ATC will clear you down to 8000 ft.
2. If you have broken cloud, call them FABB in sight and continue 122.7.
3. If you have not broken cloud then you have 2 alternatives:
A. Request the FAOR ILS and once broken cloud continue low level around for a landing at FABB.
B. Divert to FALA, fly the ILS, break cloud and continue low level for a landing at FABB. Or land and reposition aircraft to FABB when weather improves
